#19 Donkin

Toronto-listed Morien Resources has entertained royalty ambitions of its own, but valued at C$12m ($9m), the company now looks like a ragbag of miscellaneous royalty assets.

Chief executive John Budreski sits on the board of streaming group Sandstorm Gold and last year, Morien reported its first royalty payment from a 1.5 per cent claim over the Yellow Giant copper-gold project in British Columbia.

Owned by Toronto-listed Banks Island Gold, Yellow Giant has only delivered sporadic output to date and was mothballed in August, but in better markets, the property is prospective for a large copper-gold porphyry system.

Morien also has a 50-year royalty over an aggregates deposit, plus a 2 to 4 per cent claim over the giant Donkin thermal coal mine in Nova Scotia. Until recently Donkin was flooded and was sold by Glencore last year, but the mine is showing signs of winning a second life under the ownership of Illinois-based coal boss and believer, Chris Cline.
