#8 Hackett River

Sabina Gold & Silver sold its Hackett River zinc, copper, silver discovery in northern Canada to Xstrata in 2011 for cash of $50m, plus a royalty on silver production.

The royalty is levied at a thumping 22.5 per cent up to 190m ounces and 12.5 per cent thereafter, whilst the deposit hosts a silver resource of around 300m ounces. It is now sitting inside Glencore, after its $65bn takeover of Xstrata in 2013.

Glencore has been single-minded in discarding Xstrata's peripheral or high-cost assets and Hackett River has remained in its inventory. It is also famously bullish on zinc, but equally shy of greenfield projects, suggesting it may be happy to leave Hackett River's zinc (and silver) in the Arctic and off the market for a good deal longer.
