#19 Dartbrook

Anglo American sold its Dartbrook coal mine in New South Wales last year to Australian Pacific Coal, an ASX-listed junior led by coal boss Nathan Tinkler.

Dartbrook is hardly a tier-one asset. It is an underground thermal coal mine, idled for nearly a decade. Tinkler, meanwhile, has been struggling to escape personal bankruptcy for several months. He has backing from one of Australia's richest families however, Australian Pacific is gunning for a mining restart and it shares have surged with the coal price (to all of two cents).

Anglo American kept a $3 per tonne royalty over the mine, which is almost certainly non-core. At planned production of 2.5m tonnes per annum, with capacity of nearly 5m tonnes, the royalty could add up to over $7.5m per annum, if Tinkler can get things moving.
