#4 Osisko Gold

Quebec-based Osisko is a royalty group in its own right. It has two of the best gold royalties in the industry over two of Canada's largest gold mines, Malartic and Eleonore, plus more cash than anyone could spend on a night out in Montreal.

Chairman Sean Roosen, however, is one of the best mine-builders in the industry. He is also the boldest dealmaker in gold. Having built Malartic, he bashed back a hostile bid by Goldcorp, spinning-off a massive 5 per cent royalty instead.

Roosen listed the new company in 2014 and has maxed-out the premium that was slapped on the stock, hammering out shares to raise cash, buying dozens of new projects. As such, Osisko's shares have lagged; it is the only company in the royalty sector not to see a jump in its stock in the last twelve months.

In August, Roosen announced a subtle restructure, “stream-lining” Osisko by separating its royalties from its exploration assets, which were shunted into a sister-co. Roosen can now wait for royalty revenue to come through, or, he could pop the royalties on to Sandstorm, Royal Gold or Franco-Nevada, bringing forward the payday, once again getting full value and allowing Osisko to push on with its next mine-build.
